Meet Christa

Christa Matheou
Christa Matheou

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me; your right hand will hold me fast.” Psalm 139:7-10. NIV

Grace can be a hard word to understand. But that’s the word that comes up time and time again in the life and ministry of Christa Matheou. It is truly the foundation of her walk with Christ. Psalm 139:7-10 speaks to the truth of Christa’s life.

Christa grew up in the church and was called into ministry at the age of 12, but admits she spent nearly 10 years – from the time she was 18 until she was 28 – saying no to God. Yet even in all of her wandering and disobedience, the Lord was never far away. She explains: “I had lived under the lie of the enemy for so long and I began to believe that it was too late for me – too late to give my life completely to Him and certainly too late for Him to use me in ministry. You see, I had made so many mistakes and had broken His heart so many times that I did not see myself worthy of His love. Praise God that we are not held captive from our past! He has set us free through His gift of salvation and redemption! That is grace!”

At the age of 28, God used the birth of her daughter, Katelyn, to gently bring her back to Him. “I will never forget the moment that Christ spoke to my heart. I had been feeding Katelyn and I began to sing the old hymns of the church. I hadn’t sung them in such a long time. Something wonderful happened that day – God revealed to me that His love is tender, faithful, steady, and unchanging. He sought me out and never gave up on a wayward child!”

Upon rededicating her life to the Lord, God inspired Christa to write her first song, entitled “I Come.” It is her song of redemption and a testament to God’s love. Her lyrics communicate His promise: “I come to restore your broken heart. I come to bring peace in the middle of your storm. So, no matter where you are and no matter what you’ve done…I will find you, I will find you…I come.”

Since that time of renewal, Christa literally took a step of faith into ministry. She did not know where the journey would take her, but believed that God would go before her…and He has. She has become a highly requested guest artist and keynote speaker for women’s ministry events and has had the privilege of sharing the platform with artists such as Chonda Pierce and Tammy Trent.

Christa is a sincere speaker and worship leader that will encourage young and old alike. She has been describe a “having a rock solid faith and a true heart for the gospel message”. Her most requested topic, “The Potter’s Clay – Worthy Vessels”, has been changing the lives of women across the country. It is a message that brings hope, healing and forgiveness to wounded hearts. After experiencing the power of God’s grace and forgiveness through Christa’s message, women are walking away transformed and renewed. They are seeking God like never before and developing a deeper walk with Him.

Christa is a recording artist and an accomplished singer/songwriter with two solo recordings. “The Other Side” was recorded at Gaither Studios with well-known producer, Roger Byrd. Her second solo recording, “Follow The Cross” has been an inspiration to all who hear. This project is near to Christa’s heart, as she has written many of the song with the help of Dove Award Winner Kenn Mann.

Though she feels called and privileged to share Christ’s love through her music and speaking ministry, Christa’s first ministry is to her family. Married for 18 years, she and her husband John, have two wonderful children – 17- year- old Katelyn and 13- year- old John Michael. They reside in Clearwater, Florida.

Christa’s passion for the ministry God has given her, and her love for the Lord are evident in all that she does. She believes individuals can be encouraged and transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. She encourages us: “It is my heart’s desire that the true message of Jesus Christ will come through in my words and in my music. Whether I am presenting a concert or speaking at a conference, I want people to know that they are worthy. I want them to experience a “love” relationship with the one who gave His life so that we all might live. God taught me a long time ago not to hold onto the sin of my past – my old life was gone and I was a new creation in Jesus Christ. I am thankful that I could never flee from His presence. I pray that we will seek Him in all that we do until the day He returns!”
